Yes it actually does. For some reason after watching this movie 500 times I think it ties in to the first Mario game storyline. I hope your ready for this long theory I thought up.
The Reason for Mushrooms and other Items in the game:
In the film the original king(Daisy's dad) was turned into fungus and wasn't able to do much. But he was able to help the Mario Bros. for getting all these items for them like Bob-ombs, Banzai and Bullet Bills, and yes including the Mushroom. If it wasn't for the kings help the Bros. wouldn't be able to survive the Mushroom Kingdom.
The reason Peach was not in the film:
Well this might sound weird but I'm glad they didn't put her in. First off without Daisy joining the University in Brooklyn she wouldn't be able to find the "Warp Zone" to link to the Mushroom Kingdom to the real world. Second off in my theory in the end of the movie Daisy comes in to the Bros. home and ask them for help. But how does this tie into the first game? Well with the help she's asking for maybe Bowser or "Koopa" in the movie might have came back to life and stolen another princess like oh I dunno... Peach perhaps? Well it sound possible but I'm not sure. But hey it makes sense for not putting Peach in the movie because this event occurs before the first Mario game.
The reason for Koopa or aka Bowser and the rest of the Goombas, Koopas, and other creatures tie into the Dinosuars:
In the beginning of the movie they explain that the Dinosaurs were killed off by a meteorite and caused all of them to live in another dimension and form a new living of their own. Now with this this could lead up to the start of Mushroom Kingdom. And with Koopa being the form of the Tyrannosaurus rex he was able to have complete control of the the Koopas and Goombas since he's the top of all Dinosaurs. But now you might be wondering,"How come Bowser is a human in the movie?" Well sit down shut up and I'll tell you. After waiting for the humans finally evolve and start life as it is now same as the Dinosaurs in the other dimension of as we know the Mushroom Kingdom. With Bowser's great ideas he was able to create a machine to change the Dinosaurs into human and back without problem. And since he had all this control he was able to throw off the king from his thrown and control Mushroom Kingdom for his needs. With all control of the citizens and the Koopas in the Kingdom. But remember in the beginning how Daisy was dropped off in our world and wasn't in the kingdom at the time of the event? Well for some reason once she was about to be born her mother escaped with her child with the stone so Bowser wouldn't get his hands on it to rule both dimensions. After the drop off Daisy's mother tried to head back but she was later killed by Bowser on the way back. So this kind of makes sense so far? If not you might have to watch the movie to see yourself. But just to make the point now Daisy is actually part Dinosaur or Koopa in our gaming term now. Yeah but how did she become human instead? Well she was born in the human atmosphere so that kind off got her into form of a human. So yeah... that clears thing up huh?
Toad was in the movie?:
Yes he was actually. He use to be a hippy at the time trying to get rid of Bowser in the movie when Mario and Luigi came. But during the process they were all arrested on the spot by the Koopa police. And in the film they turned Toad into a Goomba like form so that explains why he's a silly looking Mushroom man. Because he's part Goomba. So yeah Toad tied in a lot in the movie.
Yoshi in the movie to early:
It's good they added Yoshi early. Why? Because he's part of the royal family pet in the Mushroom Kingdom like they mentioned in the movie. So without Mario and Luigi showing up in time to save Yoshi there would have been no Super Mario World. And I admit I love Super Mario World.
The reason Mario and Luigi jump so much:
Actually they were able to learn the ability when they were in the Mushroom Kingdom. In the movie they found these boots to be able to make them fly or jump really far and this helped them a lot through out the whole movie to do anything at all. So yes this is the reason they jump so much.
Bowser had a wife?:
Yes he did in the movie. So this might be able to clear up on some things from Bowser having tons of kids. But really it wasn't his wife... it was a manager of his assistance. So... they have been hanging out for some time and... you know... they could of uhhhh... well you know what I mean. So maybe that will help clear some tings... I said some... not all... but how did they pop out of nowhere? Well in the movie Koopas lay eggs for their babies to come so maybe they were stored somewhere and maybe not of use until Mario 3 came out.
So... does this clear up some stuff? Well I know there's more to say but I'm sick of typing now. So if you want to clear up on some more confusion ask in the comments. So yeah... I watched the movie today and I had a bunch of theories in my head and I didn't want it to go to waste. So yeah I was bored today. I have no reason why I typed this. But then I remembered of so many people saying that the Mario games do not tie into the games at all. So I watched it again and I'm proving that theory wrong. So yeah thanks for your time and remember if you need more questions about this type in the comments. It helps a lot.
